During the last decade at the University of Regensburg a large amount of know-how is accumulated in this field of research with a rich palette of THz technical equipment,
in particular for intense terahertz excitation of semiconductors.
These facilities attracted many scientists around the world, who work now in cooperation with Regensburg, making up an international network dealing with THz research.
The Terahertz Center at Regensburg University (TerZ) is established for a better coordination, extending technical facilities, deeper penetration in the field,
and improving education in a topical area of modern science.
In a joint effort, the cooperating laboratories in the Terahertz Center overcome significant challenges posed by the limited knowledge of radiation-matter interaction,
in particular at high intensities and ultra-short radiation pulses, which underlies this large portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.
